PREGNANCY CARE

Pregnancy

Treatment during pregnancy can be useful in allowing the body to adapt with the rapid changes of a woman's body during the growth of the baby.

Our Osteopaths will treat using soft tissue massage, joint movement and mobilisation, dry needling and manipulations where necessary, as well as specific gentler pregnancy related techniques.  At our clinics we offer the use of Belly Pillows, which is great for lying face down in comfort beyond the first trimester of pregnancy.  Many of our clients find this a real luxury, particularly in the final trimester.

As well as this, our Osteopaths are trained in providing pre and post pregnancy exercises, including pelvic floor exercises, to complement the treatment.

The Pregnancy Related Symptoms We May Be Able To Assist With Are:
  • pelvic instability
  • pubic pain
  • lower back pain
  • upper thoracic and cervical pain, including cervicogenic headaches
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • swelling in the lower limbs and feet
  • reflux and indigestion
  • pelvic floor weakness or overactivity
  • incontinence

Is It Ok To Have Osteopathic Treatment During Pregnancy?

Absolutely! The osteopathic techniques used to treat a symptoms associated with pregnancy are carefully selected to ensure that the mother-to-be is comfortable at all times.

Should I Have An Osteopathic Trea tment Following The Birth Of My Newborn?

Many new mothers receive osteopathic treatment following the birth of their newborn in order to correct the musculoskeletal imbalances that may be present.  Lets face it, the body goes through some amazing changes.

Please ask your osteopath when it would be appropriate to commence your osteopathic treatment following the delivery of your newborn.

Will compression garments help in my recovery?

Short answer is YES!

We stock both SRC Pregnancy range of garments and SRC Recovery garments in the clinic.

SRC Pregnancy Shorts and Leggings are an effective, non-pharmacological option for prevention and management of pain during pregnancy and are endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association and Australian College of Midwives.
SRC studies show ~82% of women who wore SRC Pregnancy Shorts or Leggings experienced a reduction in their discomfort.
