Did you know?

Myotherapists provide evidence-based assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for a wide range of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions, for example:

Back pain
Neck and shoulder pain
Sports injuries
Rotator cuff problems
Occupational injuries
Achilles tendinopathy and other ankle injuries
Jaw pain and clicking
Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain presentations
Tennis elbow

You don’t need to be in pain to visit a Myotherapist. Once symptoms have settled treatment may focus on restoring optimal activity (rehabilitation), reducing the likelihood of further injury and keeping you moving and performing at your best.

Osteopathy and Pregnancy

During the time of pregnancy the body goes through many changes to adapt to the rapid growth of your baby. Not only are there muscular changes, but joint changes as the hormone relaxin starts to be produced at around 8 weeks of gestation, which causes a softening in the ligaments (particularly noticed around the pelvis) to prepare the body for birth.

9 months preparing to fall in love for a life time

Women present to us daily with multiple complaints during pregnancy which we can aid in the treatment of using hands on techniques and exercise advice, such as:

  • Pelvic instability
  • Lower back or sacral pain
  • Pubic bone pain
  • Upper back and neck discomfort
  • Headaches
  • Reflux or indigestion
  • Fluid retention and oedema
  • Sciatic or nerve pain
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Round ligament pain

And the list goes on...

The way in which we address these complaints is by looking at how the body is adapting (or usually, NOT adapting!) to the growth of your baby, and how this may impact on your pain/discomfort/other symptoms, with the aim of making mum's body more comfortable during the pregnancy.

Our treatment techniques vary with each individual that presents to us, there is no set formula for treatment of pregnancy. Usually we will use hands on massage, joint movement and mobilisation, muscle stretching, manipulations if necessary, dry needling and balancing techniques specific for pregnancy.

And guess what?! You can lie on your stomach with our special Belly Pillow (provided you are comfortable and it is safe to do so), most women do not want to get up again after they have laid on this pillow!

All of our practitioners have experience with treating pregnancy and are knowledgable in the stages of pregnancy. We can offer you advice leading up to your birth and beyond, including ergonomic advice, exercises (mostly clinical Pilates based). In addition  we can offer you a wide range of referrals within Geelong to various health professionals who specialise in pregnancy.
